Stonefall silently ignored Demise's skepticism as he unraveled his crooked tail and padded after her, his pace painfully slow despite the rapidly fading sun. The lack of sunlight didn't intimidate the deputy but rather, he grinned at the thought. He preferred hunting in the stillness of the dark. It allowed him to focus and become more intimate with his prey and surroundings. He loved the deafening silence that was only shattered by a splash or a swift movement.
After another moment, the tomcat bounded forward with newfound vigor and caught up with the she-cat. He was careful to avoid the edge of the springs and the steaming water with it; he would have plenty of time to get his paws wet when they were fishing. It wasn't long until they'd reached the bank of the river. [/blockquote]

As the river came into view, Demise instinctively merged into the stone. She crouched, and slowly approached the water. The setting sun painted the waves crimson, and she quietly thought to herself how much it resembled blood.
Her golden depths darted back and forth across the water, watching her prey as they swam about unaware. She spotted a rather well-sized fish, silver and gold in the water, lazing about near shore. Slowly she lifted her paw, much like she had with the mouse. Eyes focused, she let out her claws and snatched up the fish in one swift movement, forcing it out of the water and onto the bank. Swiftly she dragged it back.

Stonefall silently gazed on at Demise as she towed the fish back from the shore, his tail waving about in the air. "Nice job," he praised in a hushed tone as he already began toward the bank, his shadow beginning to disappear on the ground as the sun floated downward. He felt each muscle smoothly follow each of his commands as he stealthily crept forward until he was just barely looming over the water.
The achromatic fur along his shoulders bristled slightly as he narrowed his bronze eyes on the water, attempting to concentrate. Only a couple dark forms glided through the clear water; the other must've been scared off when the she-cat fished out their friend. His claws partially unsheathed, he positioned himself properly, lifting his talon into the air.. Then struck with lightning swiftness, hooking his rake on one of the few remaining prey and throwing it out of the water with practiced ease. [/blockquote]

Demise held the fish down her paws, afraid that it would flip itself back into the water. Her lips curled in a slight smile as Stonefall praised her, and she watched as he approached to make his kill. His movements were smoothe; his gaze was concentrated. Realizing again the fish beneath her paws she leaned down to pull it further from the water, where she left it to flip helplessly. Moving back towards the river she watched as the deputy easily flipped a large catch from the water. "That was great," she awed.

Stonefall flexed his rake into the scaly hide of the writhing fish, applying his bodyweight to keep it still, despite the slippery wetness that soaked his forepaw. At least this was much better than the steaming water of the hot springs; it didn't hurt, not him, anyway. Acknowledging Demise's praise with a polite dip of the head, the deputy began to tow his own catch up from the shore until he was standing beside the femme.
By now, the sunset had sunken down beneath the waves on the horizon. A vast but intact darkness engulfed the two felines and their catches before they had a chance to react. Glancing slowly about, Stonefall flicked his crooked tail at Demise. "They'll be wanting us at camp. Let's go." On that quiet note, the gray tomcat picked up his fish and headed into the blackness.

Demise picked up her catch and followed the tom, quickening her pace breifly to come up at his side. Neither could speak with prey in their mouth, so the silence wasn't quite akward, but still, Demise felt the urge to say something. With a sigh, she raised her eyes to look up at the sky. Near the middle it was still blue, but it was tinged at the edges with pink, red, and purple. It was like one giant rainbow, and she found herself staring. Slowly her orbs lowered again to find that the tom was ahead of her, but this time she didn't speed up. She watched him from afar, studying his crooked tail and ashen complexion. He was fit to be deputy, she decided.

ooc; and after twenty years without posting.. x3
As the darkness continued to envelope the two felines, the ashen tomcat found himself engrossed in idle thoughts. His auric orbs stared down blankly at his paws as he padded onward, unaware that his companion was lingering behind. Instead, he permitted his mind to go off on an excursion through the events of the day. His misunderstanding thoughts, spontaneous decisions, and carelessness.. Her sudden appearance, friendly request, and excellent hunting skills. Had she been hiding herself from him or was his mind fabricating that illusion? Was he truly going insane or was he just imagining that, as well?
Stonefall paused, tasting the salty tang of the fish's scaly hide, and blinked into the shadows. It was only just now that he realized that he was alone. Demise? He blinked once more and twisted around awkwardly, his shoulderblades flexing, to see the femme staring at him. And he was compelled to return the stare, his expression as blank as it had been two moments ago when he was scrutinizing his paws. What was she doing? The impulse to speak arrived, but was interrupted with the fish hanging limply in his jaws. He forced himself to drop it and called out to her, "Are you coming?"
